Single this Valentine's Day? There are plenty of ways to celebrate!

February 14th brings a lot of pressure for single people. Some folks feel down on themselves for being alone, while others try and scramble to find dates. Even those that are comfortable with their single status may receive questions from well-meaning people asking about their plans for Valentine's Day. What is a single gal to do? Here is some advice.

Throw a Party for Valentine's Day

One way to stop identifying yourself as "not part of a couple" is to throw a party inviting everyone: single, engaged, or married friends. Celebrate the day with a wide variety of people, rather than focusing on couple's activities. Valentine's Day brings with it a lot of decorating and food possibilities (anything red or in the shape of a heart is a great start), so focus on "fun" instead of "love."

Spoil Yourself

Some singles find that Valentine's Day is the perfect time to do a little pampering. Spa dates, manicures, or even a massage can make just about any gal feel better. Or, if you prefer a great movie night, snuggle up with a stack of fun and upbeat comedies that will keep things light. No matter how you indulge, take the time and money to do something special for yourself that you wouldn't normally do.

Hang Out With Gal Pals

If you're feeling a bit down on Valentine's Day, never sit alone and brood. Instead, call up some single friends for girl's night in or out. You don't need to party it up in order to feel better, sometimes just the company of your best friends will lift you out of the blues and put things in perspective.

Ignore Valentine's Day

Let's not forget, February 14th is really just another day. Just because there are other people celebrating their romance doesn't mean you need to do that. There are plenty of other holidays you don't participate in, right? So don't put heavy meanings on Valentine's Day just because society suggests it.

Take a Weekend Trip

How about a getaway? One sure way to avoid seeing an ex-boyfriend out with his new gal is to simply leave town. Don't plan a trip because it's Valentine's Day alone, rather, use the time to think about yourself. If you've been putting off seeing an out-of-town friend or family member, the time around February 14th could turn into a nice tradition where you make a trip to visit someone special to you.

Bottom line? If you're single and unattached, celebrate it! With online dating, speed dating, and lunch dates, singles have more ways to meet someone new than ever before. It isn't a matter of "if" you will meet someone, but when. So don't worry if you're unattached. If you want to be with someone, you will.
